Travelling Man had its humble beginnings in the late 1980s when two friends, Nabil and Simon, were looking to use their passion for role-playing games to escape their dead-end jobs. This started as a play-by-mail game called Star Marines, which they ran for some time — before looking up to notice the extensive library of games that had amassed around them. Then they had a bright idea. The first store opened in 1991 on Hyde Park Corner in Headingley, Leeds.

A few years later they had already expanded and relocated to Leeds city centre, where the flagship store still stands today. Today, four stores serve comics and games fans across the North of England — and the same passion that started it all is still very much alive.

How it all began

"Two friends, one passion, and a very bright idea."

  • Late 1980s

Nabil & Simon run Star Marines, a play-by-mail RPG. Games accumulate. An idea forms.
