A party card game of quick wits and medieval art!

Brother Why? – Use your quick wit and silver tongue to talk, argue, and bluff your way out of a medieval telling-off! Throw your fellow monks under the cart and ensure that they, not you, take the fall for all these very silly margin doodles!

Brother Why? Features completely genuine 14th-16th century manuscript marginalia, this social card game involves rounds of friendly, improvised debate and arguments as each player desperately tries to justify their pairing of baffling marginalia and super serious bible quote.

Brother Why? Gameplay

It’s the middle ages and you’re a monk. You’re nearing the end of another day of laboriously illuminating the good book. But Lo! What hath happened?! Your mind has wandered and you’ve drawn something Very Silly. The Abbot isn’t going to like this….

In Brother Why? Each player is dealt a Very Silly Guy card featuring a baffling marginalia illustration, and a Very Serious Quote card featuring a genuine bible quote: your silly drawing and the serious quote you drew it next to.

Thus begins a round-table, free-for-all debate as each player desperately tries to justify their pairing of outlandish illustration and serious quote!

Once this debate reaches a natural conclusion, the least justified pairing is chosen by majority vote. Sent off to the Abbot to take the fall for all this rampant doodle, this loser receives a Chastisement (point) and the round begins anew – least points at the end of the game wins!

Easy to jump into, this game is perfect for a laugh at the end of the night after more serious games, or a great warm-up and ice-breaker at a friendly gathering!
